Needle Based Electro Spinning Machine
Electro spinning is a very simple and versatile process by which polymer nanofibers with diameters ranging from a few nanometers to several micrometers (usually between 50nm and 500nm) can be produced using an electro statically driven jet of polymer solution (or polymer melt). The ESPIN-NANO Needle based electro spinning machine in our lab is manufactured by M/S.Peco, Chennai. A rich variety of materials like polymers, composites and ceramics can be used to generate ultrathin fibers. This non-mechanical, electrostatic technique involves the use of a high voltage electrostatic field to charge the surface of a polymer solution droplet and thus to induce the ejection of a liquid jet through a spinneret. In a typical process, an electrical potential is applied between a droplet of a polymer solution, a melt, held at the end of a capillary tube ( or syringe needle) and a grounded target. When the applied electric field overcomes the surface tension of the droplet, a charged jet of polymer solution is ejected. Some of the important applications of electro spun nanofibers are filtration ( air/water), textile manufacturing, tissue engineering, wound dressing, drug delivery, implant materials etc.
